Insulation is the most effective way to improve the energy efficiency of your home. Insulation keeps the heat in in winter, but lets the heat out in summer improving your comfort and saving energy. Insulation can save between 45-55% of heating and cooling energy - when you're saving energy you're saving money on electricity and gas bills. With a range of insulation types available, phone Bells Interior Lining for advice on the right insulation for your new home or renovation.
- Glasswool Insulation
- Polyester Insulation
- Rockwool Insulation
Insulation R-value
The performance of insulation is measured by it's R-value. A high R-value means greater resistance to heat flow into the building in summer and out of the building in winter. In other words, the higher the R-value (highest = 4, lowest = 1) the more effective the product. Recommended R-value's vary across Australia depending on climate. Bells Interior Lining tip - just because one insulation is thicker than another doesn't mean the R-value is greater.
Insulation Cost
The cost of insulation can vary greatly. The best times to install installation is during a renovation or during the initial building of a new home. The higher the R-value, the higher the initial cost but a higher R-value will save you money on your energy bills down the track. Quality insulation can reduce your energy bills by as much as 55%.
Glasswool Insulation Batts
At Bells Interior Lining, Glasswool Insulation is the most commonly used insulation. Made from recycled glass, the Glasswool insulation is then melted down and spun into a mat of fibres. There is a range of different R-values in glasswool insulation to suit all climates and requirements, talk to Bells Interior Lining about R-value and prices for installation of your Glasswool Insulation.
Polyester Insulation Batts
Polyester Insulation Batts are made from polyester fibres that are layered into a mat. They look similar to glasswool batts, but are softer to touch. The thermal performance of polyester insulation batts are not as efficient as Glasswool Insulation as the fibres are thinner. In order to achieve the same performance (R-value) you would need a thicker polyester insulation batt than glasswool.
Rockwool Insulation
Rockwool Insulation is made from melted volcanic rock (basalt) that is spun into fibres. Rockwool is typically a denser material than glasswool and has excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties. Bells Interior Lining are happy to discuss the benefits of Rockwool insulation.
With one of the hottest summers behind us and one of the coldest winters upon us there has never been a better time to have insulation installed in your home.
